Apprentices Shine at Simpson Strong-Tie

Apprentices Shine at Simpson Strong-Tie

In October we welcomed three future apprentices from LEMA, an apprenticeship programme which helps engineering and manufacturing companies across the West Midlands to meet their workforce requirements.

Following a full health and safety induction Charlie, Cameron and Tyler each worked with our Maintenance team for two days, servicing machinery and making and drilling connectors.

As well as hands-on work experience, the apprentices gained valuable insight into our fast paced manufacturing environment where time and efforts cost money, and assisted our in-house team in achieving 100% functionality.

Maintenance Manager Bryan Russell said “It’s great to see young, hungry students have an appreciation for engineering and looking for a career in maintenance. Our company founder Barclay Simpson built Simpson Strong-Tie on nine principles, one of them being ‘Give Back’ and we saw this as a perfect opportunity to help further the progression of the next generation of engineers from within the community. They came in, got their hands dirty and got stuck in, it was refreshing to see”.

LEMA provide engineering apprenticeships to the next generation of engineers with a three stage programme which provides participants with the skills required to fulfil a variety of roles within engineering and manufacturing, and meet the latest technical, economic and environmental changes in the sector.

We’re pleased to have provided our three apprentices with valuable exposure to the industry and working environment they can expect when entering the sector through a Level 3 Apprenticeship. All three learners gave excellent feedback and thoroughly enjoyed their time with Simpson Strong-Tie.

It has been an exciting year here at Simpson Strong-Tie, celebrating our UK 25 year anniversary as we continue our mission to provide solutions to help people design and build safer, stronger structures.
