Industry Cadets first Intake
This summer, the Simpson Strong-Tie operation in Tamworth hosted a selection of would-be designers and engineers as part of the 'Industry Cadet' scheme. Year 11 students Connor, Ella and Isabel each chose to spend a week at Simpson Strong-Tie to gain an understanding of the inner workings of the worlds leading construction connector manufacturer and to get a flavour of the industries they hope to join when they leave college or university.
The team of cadets tried their hand in design, testing, manufacturing and logistics, as well as rounding off their experience, spending time with the customer service, finance and marketing departments.
On completion, they each graduated as Industry Cadets, a status recognisable later in their careers should they pursue apprenticeships in the construction industry. Cadet spokesperson, Isabel summed it up for the team: "It was pretty daunting to enter the world of work, but everyone made us feel very welcome and it has been a big boost to our confidence. It's also given me a few more career choices to think about.".
