Solid Joist Notch Reinforcement

Traditionally, solid joists are notched to allow services. This can reduce their strength and exposes the services to possible screw/nail penetration when the floor is fixed. Opportunity to find a way to both strengthen the joists and protect services from above.

  1. Strengthen and Protect Notched Joists

Commonly the case in bathrooms, notching out solid timber joists allows plumbing pipes and cables to pass through the floor structure - however doing so weakens the joist and exposes services to accidental damage from screws or nails coming from above.

This kit includes an engineered steel reinforcement bracket with a bendable leg so it can easily be installed around existing services and onto the joist to help strengthen the joist at the notch point. The top plate covers the notch to ensure that screws used to flx the flooring to the joists will not penetrate pipes or cables beneath.

    • Reinforces solid timber joists with notches to allow services to pass through
    • Can be retro-fitted to existing floors or installed to new ones in the same short time frame
    • Avoids the risk of flooring fastenings accidentally penetrating pipes or cables
    • A convenient solution for up to 5 notched floor joists
