Recommendations for Fixing Valley Trussed Rafters
The National House Building Council (NHBC) in their Technical Guidance 7.2/14 Data Sheet provide recommendations for Fixing Valley Truss Rafters and answer the question “How valley trussed rafters should be supported and fixed to the main trussed rafters?”
Splayed Bottom Chord
Valley trussed rafters are cut at a splayed angle. It can prove time-consuming to ensure the splay angle matches the main truss. Poorly splayed timber risks a reduction to the strength of the structure.
Square Bottom Chord
Here a continuous binder or batten, splayed to match the truss rafter is used to make the connection to the bottom chord. This can also be time-consuming and is only as good as the splayed junction fit.
The Simpson Option
Specifically designed to minimise timber waste and installation time, the VTCR provides a structurally tested connection, eliminating the need for timber splaying.
